Engineers strive for simplicity, but the reality is that everything is more complex today, and plant floors are no exception. That said, virtually any manufacturing line, cell or machine function can be automated using Programmable Logic Controllers (PLC).

With the advancement of PLC technology and broad market acceptance of PLC devices, there are literally hundreds of PLC makes and models in use today. And, while the programming of ladder logic development for one type of device may appear similar to that for another, Applied Sciences Group has developed the expertise to recognize the intricacies and nuances associated with each.

A wide variety of sensors and sensor types provide inputs to the PLC, which generates a preprogrammed sequence of events based on these inputs. For example, part positioning and an indication that the operator is safely out of harm's way are typical inputs to any control system. Output devices such as motors, conveyors, valves, or presses are then sent instructions by the PLC to perform their given functions.

The most common PLCs Applied Sciences Group works with are:

  • Allen-Bradley
  • Modicon
  • General Electric
  • Omron
  • Siemens
  • Mitsubishi
  • Koyo-Automation Direct
  • We maintain a comprehensive library of development tools within our facility enabling us to work with state of the art as well as legacy systems. And while we have our favorite brands for reliability, ease of use, maintainability and cost effectiveness, we remain vendor neutral; we will work with your preference or standard.

Applied Sciences Group develops high quality PLC systems that fulfill the customer's requirements.

We understand that close communication between otherwise incompatible systems is a prerequisite to industrial automation, where the needs of the factory come first and the capabilities of commercial systems must adapt.

However, our highest priority is always to build safe control systems.

We invite you to review our PLC Control System case studies listed to the right, and would welcome the opportunity to help you define your requirements, provide a proposal for achieving your objectives, and then put our expertise to work for you.
