Project Description:
Applied Sciences Group applied its expertise in real-time control
systems to the liquefaction, storage and transport of carbon dioxide. An
air separation facility recently expanded their "small plant" process
to include CO2 extraction from air, liquefaction, storage and
dispensing wholly contained within the framework of a single building.
Applied Sciences Group's role was to develop and customize the control
software related to liquid CO2 storage and its regulated dispensing
to waiting tank trucks and rail cars.
Approach & Results:
The dispensing system consists of an array of sensors, valves, transducers,
regulators and gas analyzers tied to a series of Allen-Bradley PLCs, which
monitor storage tank parameters and fill zone (docking) attributes. The PLC
software controls a series of interlocks and permissives that route the liquid
from a selected tank to the appropriate fill zone. Applied Sciences Group
also developed a separate Intellution package to provide supervisory
control, report generation, alarming and remote digital access to each system. |
