Project Description:
One of Applied Sciences Group's customers needed process improvements associated
with the manufacture of welded pipes. The existing process was neither
informative nor easily controlled, and had to be upgraded.
Approach:
Applied Sciences Group developed the control package for a Welded Tube Manufacturing
Process. The Welded Tube Process Control System application involved a PLC-based
system that retrieved and reported device parameter data related to the Welded
Tube Process line. In a parallel effort, Applied Sciences Group implemented
an Intellution SCADA package for the same process line.
Control logic was provided for the Welded Tube Process
Control System utilizing Taylor software and was implemented using a
Modicon Compact
984 PLC. The capabilities and features were limited to data collection/input
from multiple devices, calculations, engineering unit conversions and
formatting to allow for integration with the FIX SCADA
package. Applied Sciences Group, in conjunction with the customer's design
engineers, provided clarification and definition of variable locations,
addresses, and other project specific aspects.
Results:
The combination of better control and observable process parameters resulted
in a more efficient and streamlined process. |
